Should Haldia be named today as a town of Digital Dewali ? Should Haldia be termed as the divisive feeling? Or is it dissociation of sensibility- whatever it might be, it is undoubtedly being admitted that Haldia is the name of undivorcial intimacy of acceptance and creativity. Though it can be safely said that Haldia was born as the portrait of esthetic beauty of Industry, the idea of turning point of Haldia has just come up from this scheme – or in other words Haldia is the modern blossom of ancient Tamralipta. As Hopkins said, “ Send me rain to my roots”. This anecdote is the anecdote of the Port Township which Symbolies the magnificent beauty of eternal acceptance and expression.
Haldia Municipality was established on 9th June 1997 soon after the formation of a Board of Councillors having 24 Wards in and around Haldia. The Municipality practically launched its voyage after winding up of Haldia Notified Area Authority which was formed earlier in 1983 by a proclamation of the Urban Development Department of Govt. of West Bengal. Serving the most prestigious industrial town in West Bengal, it provides quality Services to more than 2(two)lakhs static and another 1(one)lakh floating population(approx) having 26 Wards at the beginning of 3rd Board.
Organization Structure
Every year, an Annual General Meeting is held on 10th June with all the members of the Ward Committees where a printed report “PRATIBARTA” is published containing the Ward-wise expenditure in details incurred throughout the year for the development in the general and social infrastructure basing on the suggestions received earlier from the respective Ward Committees on Planning & development.

The township has lot of open space and so one can see a lot of sporting activities, the primarily being soccer and cricket. The schools have really large playgrounds and enthusiasm among both elders and juniors are palpable during weekend matches. Haldia is going to get Bengal's second "International Cricket Stadium" after "Eden Garden".
